![]() ![]() Repeated or prolonged bronchoconstriction may require a change in dose or medication.īe alert for signs of hypoglycemia (weakness, malaise, irritability, fatigue) or hyperglycemia (drowsiness, fruity breath, increased urination, unusual thirst). Perform pulmonary function tests to quantify suspected changes in ventilation and respiration (See Appendices I, J, K). Notify physician of severe or prolonged signs of vasoconstriction.Īssess symptoms of bronchospasm (wheezing, coughing, tightness in chest). Monitor signs of peripheral vasoconstriction, such as extreme coldness in the hands and feet, cyanosis, and muscle cramping. Document improvements in these variables, but also report any decline in exercise tolerance or increased frequency/severity of anginal attacks. Report an abnormally slow heart rate (bradycardia) or symptoms of other arrhythmias such as palpitations, chest discomfort, shortness of breath, fainting, and fatigue/weakness.Īssess blood pressure (BP) periodically and compare to normal values (See Appendix F) to help document antihypertensive effects.Īssess exercise tolerance and episodes of angina pectoris. Report these signs to the physician immediately.Īssess heart rate, ECG, and heart sounds, especially during exercise (See Appendices G, H). By blocking the receptors to which angiotensin II normally attaches, valsartan stops the hormone having an effect, allowing the blood vessels to widen.Assess routinely for signs of CHF and pulmonary edema, including dyspnea, rales/crackles, weight gain, peripheral edema, and jugular venous distention. ![]() Angiotensin II is a powerful vasoconstrictor (a substance that narrows blood vessels). ![]() Valsartan is an ‘angiotensin II receptor antagonist’, which means that it blocks the action of a hormone in the body called angiotensin II. By reducing the flow of calcium into the cells, amlodipine prevents the cells from contracting and this helps the blood vessels to relax. When calcium enters the cells in the muscles of blood vessel walls, this causes contraction. It blocks special channels on the surface of cells through which calcium normally enters the cells. By lowering the blood pressure, the risks associated with high blood pressure, such as having a stroke, are reduced.Īmlodipine is a calcium channel blocker. They work in similar ways to reduce blood pressure by allowing the blood vessels to relax. Both are anti–hypertensive medicines that have been available separately in the European Union (EU) since the mid-1990s. Amlodipine/Valsartan Mylan contains two active substances, amlodipine and valsartan. ![]()
